About Public Prep
Public Prep is a non-profit organization that develops and supports a tuition-free coed Pre-K pilot and single-sex elementary and middle public schools which pursue excellence through continuous learning and data-driven instruction. Our academic model is designed to empower each student to build strong character, demonstrate critical thinking, possess a core body of knowledge and be on a predictive path to a four-year university.
Public Prep serves three public charter schools on five campuses and one community-based co-ed public Pre-K. Girls Prep Lower East Side (“GP LES”) Elementary School, the inaugural school in our network and the first public all-girls charter school in New York City, is entering its tenth year and serves approximately 375 students in grades K-4. GP LES’s second campus, GP LES Middle School, is entering its sixth year, and serves approximately 225 students in grades 5-8. Girls Prep Bronx (“GP Bronx”) Elementary School, also entering its sixth year, serves 444 students in grades K-5. This fall, Public Prep will launch 1) our second middle school campus, GP Bronx Middle School, with approximately 100 sixth graders, 2) our inaugural all-boys school, Boys Prep Bronx Elementary School, with approximately 144 students in kindergarten and first grade, and 3) our first-ever co-ed Pre-K program, the Joan Ganz Cooney Early Learning Program, which will serve 54 four-year-olds at the historic Bronx Opera House.
