STEPS TO ENROLL
At Public Prep, students are selected by a lottery process and everyone is eligible to apply, for free. Once accepted, families must then submit all required documents. Our enrollment team is here to help you each step of the way!
After the lottery we are still accepting applications on a rolling basis year-round.
REGISTRATION
After registering for enrollment via the form below, families must submit all required documents on SchoolMint or bring them to any Public Prep school once requested to complete enrollment. You will receive an email once offered a seat outlining what documents are needed for registration.
Note for Families in Temporary Housing: Students in temporary housing, as defined by McKinney-Vento, are not required to submit documentation (including address, proof of date of birth, and immunization) in order to enroll. We will provisionally pre-register the student and then work with a DOE contact to obtain documentation.

Hello, my name is Xianne Berger. I attended both Girls Prep from kindergarten to eighth grade. I now attend the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), majoring in education as I aspire to be a kindergarten teacher.
My teachers at Girls Prep played many roles beyond just “teacher,” they were my friends, confidants, and sometimes even a bonus mother, allowing me to become comfortable speaking about my experiences growing up. It felt so good to walk into school knowing that there was no judgment and I didn’t have to pretend to be someone else. I had space for my emotions and could speak openly to those around me.
One of the core memories that will always stick with me was the end-of-the-year activities, specifically field day. Field day was a day that the whole school came together like one big family to do nothing but have fun. While everyone talks about academic excellence, I believe the single-gender Public Prep experience is transformative.
If there is one word that I could use to describe my entire experience at Girls Prep: Comfortable.
A charter school is a public school that operates independently, allowing it to use innovative teaching methods and follow unique curriculums. It is tuition-free and open to all students. Charter schools aim to provide high-quality education and are held accountable for academic results and upholding the promises made in their charters.
